As I reflect on what I want to do with my life, I find in my heart an earnest desire to contribute, to be of help to others, to give back to society.

At the same time, though, I'm acutely aware that I'm both physically and psychologically ill-prepared to do such a thing. I feel as if I don't yet have the right mindset, and lack the relevant skills.

One area in which I sorely needed practice was interacting with other people, understanding their feelings, and respecting their opinions.

And that is what ultimately led me to theatre. Watching other people act, let alone acting myself, is an enthralling experience. By living a myriad of lives on the stage, I feel I can better relate to others, and thus be of help to them when in need.

Acting accords my private life entirely new dimensions, which in turn influences my character on stage in profound ways. The synergy thus produced makes me, I believe, a better rounded person.

Perhaps through acting I can do my share in contributing to world peace. Isn't that a wonderful prospect?
